Digi Detox Shopping Network (2025)

Martyna Pekala
Sponsor: V2_, Host: Sardegna Teatro

Digi Detox Shopping Network is an experimental one-woman show that invites the
audience to step inside the taping of a livestream. Staged as a parody of a 90s-style home
shopping channel, this multimedia play fuses performance, video projections, and real-time
live editing to create a hybrid experience that is at once physical and digital.
Martyna Pekala, the artist and host of Digi Detox Shopping Network, will guide the viewer
through a catalogue of the most bizarre mobile apps designed to aid phone detox and
decrease screen time. In this playfully abstract performance, she transforms these tools of
“digital wellness” into curious objects of spectacle.
The performance intertwines retro media aesthetics with today’s growing anxieties around
screen addiction. By satirizing the digital detox as yet another consumerist commodity,
Pekala provokes the audience to reflect on the paradoxes of our tech-obsessed culture.
Martyna Pekala (2000, PL) is an artist based in Rotterdam, and her interdisciplinary
practice comments on the absurdities of the online world. In her research, she fictionalizes
and materializes the intricate effects of social media and online presence on an individual’s
unique perception of the world. The Digi Detox Shopping Network is the result of her 6-
week Artist-In-Residence working period in SardegnaTeatro – an exchange made possible by
V2_ Lab for Unstable Media.

This project was developed during a residency as part of a Summer Sessions residency at V2_.
